Charleston and Mount Pleasant parks are abundant in the area, but the Mount Pleasant Memorial Waterfront Park, which features the longest fishing and pedestrian pier in the Southeast, is one not to miss. The 1,250-foot Mount Pleasant Fishing Pier, which was built on top of the pilings of the now extinct Pearman Bridge — it was replaced by the new Arthur J. Ravenel bridge — extends out into the Cooper River, making the Mount Pleasant Memorial Waterfront Park unlike any other.
The Mount Pleasant Memorial Waterfront Park has a number of desirable attractions for all ages including the Sweetgrass Cultural Arts Pavilion, the Mount Pleasant War Memorial, a playground with a Ravenel Bridge jungle-gym, the Mount Pleasant Visitors Center, and a 8,100-square-foot covered pavilion at the end of the fishing pier — which hosts annual events like Shaggin’ on the Cooper and Bluegrass Under the Bridge.
Daily fishing passes are offered for $8 per adult, $3 per child 12 and under, or $5 for Charleston County residents. Annual fishing passes, or 10-day fishing passes, are also available for purchase on the Charleston County Park & Recreation Commission website.
The park and pier is open throughout the year, but the hours change with the season. During the summer months (May through September), the operating hours are 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.; spring and fall months (March/April/October), the operating hours are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and winter months (November through February), the operating hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Parking in the lot at the park is 50 cents per hour, and security regularly monitors the lot for vehicles without parking receipts on their front dashboards.
HelloCharleston Tip: Rod and reel rentals are available at the pier for $12 per full day (10 to 12 hours) or $8 for a half-day (5 hours).
